Worcester Police Station is again opening its doors and inviting the members of the community to join officers for the day.

The opening of South Worcestershire Territorial Policing Unit's Headquarters at Castle Street has attracted thousands of visitors in the past, with the last open day in September 2009.

The year's open day on Sunday 11 September promises to be bigger and better than ever with lots on offer for people of all ages to experience and enjoy.

Visitors can spend time in the cells with a trip around the custody block, see the latest finger print technology, meet police dogs and their handlers, take a peak behind the scenes around the station and see police officers at work and get an up close and personal look at how Police Support Units work when sent to major incidents such as the recent riots in other parts of the country.

Also on offer is a chance to play detective and solve the clues in a mock crime scene and video identification parade, test your speed against the police speed gun, become the subject of a Wanted poster and visit the many stands with information on drugs awareness, crime prevention, special constables and competitions.

Officers will be on hand to chat to and show people around police cars and bikes.

Superintendent in charge of policing South Worcestershire, Steve Cullen said: "In the past thousands of people have come along to see what we do and meet the officers and Community Support Officers that work tirelessly in many different roles to keep our community as safe as it is.

"I would welcome everyone to please come along and have a fabulous, free, day out which I hope will be enjoyable and informative for all."

Castle Street Police Station will open its doors between 11am and 3pm. .
